Behaviour Mythbusting Part 2; Dreaming Dogs; Prescribing Laws; Skewers; Rich Cats & Fat Rats – Episode 53

Hello and Welcome to Episode 53 of the Two Vets Talk Pets Podcast, where too much talking of pets if barely enough.

This week on the good ship HMS TVTP, Robbie ponders about dreaming dogs, and dogs that dream of eating chicken skewers, Lewis about cats that dream about inheriting fortunes, and a rat that dreamed that the gap in the man hole cover was a little bit bigger

We then talk about why vets have to be careful prescribing medications and why we have laws that dictate what we can and cant do, and then it’s time for some good, old fashioned, MYTH BUSTING!

This episode is proudly supported by Zylkene from Vetquinol – a safe way to help your dog or cat that may be stressed or have a mild anxiety – safe in the young, the old, the big and the small, in the Canine, or the Feline. Wouldn’t recommend in a sloth. they already pretty sedate. They could go into a calm coma. Like me, after a nice warm milk. Before bed. But then I have to wee. And I wake up. Thankfully…

This episode is also supported by Prime 100 Pet foods – Australian made, Single Protein source diets for dogs and cats! Huge range, lots of flavours, for lots of different life stages, and diseases – So many options, great diets, lots of variety, almost as many options as a pizza shop. Which I why we want then to make the TVTP Prime 100 Ham and Pineapple Diet. That’d be pretty neat. Probably not practicable. We’ll leave the Practicality to Prime 100.

If you’d like to support the show check out our page at Patreon, and sign up to one of the options, and get yourself or your bumper an awesome sticker, and check out the exclusive Patreon Dominance Q&A session we did it was pretty awesome!

Tell us what pizza flavour you think would make a good dog food. Not meatlovers. Too easy. And nothing with onion. Or garlic. Or a Chocolate Dessert pizza. I wonder about a Crocodile and Tapioca Pizza… I might call Dominos…

Canine Dominance/The Alpha Dog (Part 1) – What is it? Is my dog being dominant?, Is it useful in dog training? Aggression & Dominance – Episode 45

Welcome listeners and friends to Episode 45 of the Two Vets Talk Pets Podcast, where too much talking of pets is barely enough. This episode is proudly supported by Zylkene from Vetquinol – a safe way to help your dog or cat that may be stressed or have a mild anxiety – safe in the young, the old, the big and the small. But Dogs and Cats – not sure in goannas. Best not to use in goannas. Just in case.

This episode is also supported by Prime 100 Pet foods – Australian made, Single Protein source diets for dogs and cats! Huge range, lots of flavours, for lots of different life stages, and diseases – Never heard of them before? Check the link above and get your pet some single protein tasty num-nums! Melbourne Made, Australian Owned, and made with love. And stuff other than love. Love has no proven ability to treat disease. Apart from a broken heart. But that’s a song for the next album…

This episode is also proudly supported by Dr Clint Yudelman from Insight Mobile Veterinary Diagnostics – a mobile Veterinary Medicine Specialist service, operating around Melbourne, and the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas. A friend to you, a friend to me, a friend in need when you want a diagnostic deed.

After recounting about some unfortunate Anal Gland incidents, amongst other gooey things, and about the weirdest place they have seen people out of context, Lewis grabs the mic, the reins, and puts his digits all over the hot button and presses D for…

Fleas, flea products, Dr Katrina Warren’s Mr Fox, lungworm, new behaviour medication (Zylkene), nail problems – Episode 12

Lewis has been ice skating with his kids and is struggling every time he moves because of sore muscles while Robbie hasn’t stopped running except to eat ice-creams in the surf.

On a serious note, the guys pass on their condolences to Dr Katrina Warren and her daughter, Charlotte on the passing of their beloved cat, Mr Fox. These are difficult times when a member of the family passes away and Lewis gives his advice for how to help to cope when there are children involved in the grieving process.

This week was ‘bug week’ at Lewis’ work and an assortment of weird and wonderful critters came across the vet table. A shout out is given to long time friend of the podcast, wildlife and photography vet, Dr Franciscus Scheelings.

The vets discuss lungworm in cats. Can they really catch it from eating slugs and snails? How would you know your cat has it and what should you do about it?

Lewis gets very excited about a new behaviour medication for cats and dogs, called Zylkene. Both vets are having some fantastic results with it and sounds like it might get 5 stars!

Robbie raises the topic of fleas in winter that are ‘turned on’ by the central heating in your house. The guys conclude that there are no fleas in Warragul or Toorak but lots in Richmond!

Mailbag is cracked and the topic of nail problems in dogs is discussed. Torn nails are a really common problem in dogs and the vets discuss what to do when it happens.
