Robbie’s Marathon was last week, so Lewis sent his wife Deb out as a roving reporter to the 18km mark (also a point where Robbie was actually still doing pretty well) – a more in-depth report will be in ep 33. When Robbie’s cramping body allows him to speak again…

Lewis talks about the Aussie Backyard Bird Count – follow the link to see how you can get involved. Robbie has used his Veterinary Prowess (and his ability to talk under water) to score a freebie at the bakery, Lewis finds another Royal Couple to plug his book to. Lewis talks about a kitten that got caught in a spin, and Robbie pleads with owners, for nurses sakes, to give your pets a chance to go to the toilet before they come in for surgeries, and a guy he saw while camping, who took his dog somewhere he probably shouldn’t have…

Into the pod proper, and Lewis talks about how petting your anxious dogs before leaving them, may actually help with separation anxiety.

In this weeks episode, Robbie talks about his impending Melbourne Marathon – where he was recently training in the Grampians region of Victoria with some Kangaroos and Emus (Here’s the link to the youtube video from the 80’s Kids show called the “early bird show” where Marty Monster was getting beaten up by a Kangaroo), and Lewis talks about his adventures scuba diving up at the Great Barrier Reef – how Australian can this show get?

Robbie also shows Lewis his daughters Mindfulness Jar she made at school (see the video HERE) – it looks a lot like something the guys are often presented with at work… Lewis brings us an update on Megaoesophagus, and Robbie and Lewis talk about using night lights and other things to help older dogs and cats who might be struggling at night.

Into the podcast proper, and Lewis does some serious Mythbusting on things people think about their pets.

Lewis has had an odd week, with some nappy dumping issues, and gives an update on the Live Export and the latest press release regarding the companies involved.

Robbie talks about Chinese Zoo’s and the shenanigans they get up to in passing off animals that may not be as they are advertised after reading The Age’s Odd Spot. Tibetan Mastiff, and Penguins

Dog Bites, Placebos, FIV and NEWS NEWS NEWS – Ep 22

Hey there TVTP fans, and welcome to Episode 22 of the Two Vets Talk Pets Podcast.

We’re back face to face, and loosened up with some of the Mountain Goat Brewery’s finest, for some fine afternoon podcasting.

Lewis has some tips for people getting bugged by their cats demanding food (using cat feeders with timers, like this one). Robbie has had 2 cases of FIV in the last week, and asks cat owners to check with their vets to see if their cats need protection. Lewis finds an article finding a possible link to grain free food to heart disease in dogs. Robbie finds out about the celebrity face of Neuticles.

Lewis finds an inappropriately coloured needle in a Botox ad (See below!), Robbie talks about jogging with dogs, and Lewis talks about Lassie.

After another stunning rendition of the disclaimer from April (fresh from her successful audition for her year 4 school play), Lewis runs a fine tooth comb through the latest edition of the Journal of Veterinary Behaviour. We talk about a very interesting article outlining risk factors of dog bites in France, and a really interesting article looking at the magical effects of Placebo.

Finally we crack open the mailbag and think about whether cats are getting enough water.

If you have any questions, comments, or any nice recipes, let us know. Especially a nice pastry recipe. Lewis loves pastries…

Eye specialist, Dr Simon Hurn, Home Eye Care & Treatment & Anti-inflammatories – Episode 20

Welcome back TVTP fans to your favourite Vets and Pets podcast – Two Vets Talk Pets! And welcome to our listeners in the Cook Islands! Here is Episode 20 – fresh, and ready for your ears!

And we’ve got a special treat for you – our first road trip! And getting to see the awesome TVTP T-Shirts that Lewis got made up.

But first, Lewis laments about Ice Skating, and tells Robbie about a Barn Owl and Possum that came into work.

Robbie fell into an internet hole chasing a story about dogs using facial expressions to increase their chances of being adopted, but how it doesn’t work for cats, and how this may have been an evolutionary advantage in the domestication of dogs by humans.

We are then joined by our first guest Dr Simon Hurn, a Specialist Vet Ophthalmologist from All Animal Eye Services in Melbourne. Our podcasters head to Advanced Vetcare in Kensington on their first TVTP road trip to ask Simon about how he got into eyes, what to look for with problems for your pets eyes at home, and about cloudy eyes in older dogs. And about low clearance and how damaging it can be for bikes on car roofs…

Robbie then brings things home with talking about Anti-Inflammatories – what are they, how they work, and are they safe?
